Flight Arrangements

All five London airports provide convenient transport links to central London and to ASL.

Heathrow Airport

By train & taxi: This is the quicker option. Take the Heathrow Express train directly from the airport to Paddington station. Paddington is only a short taxi ride from the hotel and the School. A taxi rank is situated outside the station. We recommend using only licensed black taxis, as they are the safest option. Heathrow Express: www.heathrowexpress.com.

By Underground (“the Tube”): This is the cheaper option. A one-way underground ticket costs around £6 or £4 with an Oyster Card(*). Take the Piccadilly line from Heathrow towards central London. You will need to change at Green Park to the Jubilee line. Get off at St. John’s Wood. The School is located a two-minute walk from the station. If you want to go directly to the Danubius Hotel, you can hail a taxi outside the station or take a bus (13 or 113) from bus stop C. Alternatively, it is a 15-minute walk.

(*) If you plan to travel around London during your stay, buying an Oyster Card (re-usable smart travel card) from the ticket office at any underground station is the cheapest way to travel. A £5 deposit is required, but using it will save you a third on all your travel costs on underground trains and buses. You can choose the amount you want to apply to the card; recharging facilities are available at every Underground station, as well as many of London’s newsagents.

Gatwick Airport

By train: Catch a train to London Bridge, where you will need to change to the Underground and take the Jubilee line northbound to St. John’s Wood. The train takes 35-50 minutes, and the underground another 15 minutes.

Note: you can purchase a one-way or a return ticket all the way to St. John’s Wood. Ask at the ticket booth of the train station.

Gatwick Express: This is a slightly faster train that takes you to Victoria Station. Note that this option is almost double the price compared to the normal commuter trains. From Victoria, you need to catch a Victoria line train northbound to Green Park, where you must change to the northbound Jubilee line. Get off at St. John’s Wood. The School is located a two-minute walk from the station. If you want to go directly to the Danubius Hotel, you can hail a taxi outside the station or take a bus (13 or 113) from bus stop C. Alternatively, it is a 15-minute walk.

National Express or EasyBus: Take either from the north terminal to Victoria Station (advance booking recommended). From Victoria, catch the Victoria Underground line northbound to Green Park, where you must change to the northbound Jubilee line. Get off at St. John’s Wood. The School is located a two-minute walk from the station. If you want to go directly to the Danubius Hotel, you can hail a taxi outside the station or take a bus (13 or 113) from bus stop C. Alternatively, it is a 15-minute walk. National Express website; EasyBus website

London City Airport

Take the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) to Canary Wharf, then change to the Underground and take the Jubilee line westbound to St. John’s Wood.

Note: you can purchase a one-way ticket all the way to St. John’s Wood from the ticket machine or the ticket office of the station.

Stansted Airport

By train: Catch the Stansted Express from the airport to Liverpool Street Station. Both one-way and return tickets are available from the ticket office at the train station. Then take the Central Line westbound, then change at Bond Street to the northbound Jubilee line. Get off at St. John’s Wood station. The School is located a two-minute walk from the station. If you want to go directly to the Danubius Hotel, you can hail a taxi outside the station or take a bus (13 or 113) from bus stop C. Alternatively, it is a 15-minute walk. Stansted Express website.

By coach: A cheaper option: advance booking recommended. At the airport, follow the signs to the Coach Station. You can buy tickets with cash from the coach or from the ticket office in the center of the coach station. Take the National Express to Finchley Road. From here, you have a few options; if you want to go to ASL or the Danubius Hotel, hail a taxi or take the 13 or 113 bus. For ASL, alight at St. John’s Wood station; for the Danubius remain on the bus or in the taxi until you reach the hotel. The School is a two-minute walk from the bus stop or station.

Possibly an even cheaper coach option is to take the EasyBus to Baker Street. From there, you can take the Jubilee line one stop northbound to St. John’s Wood and follow the instructions above to get to your preferred destination. National Express website; EasyBus website
